Inglis Hall The Kitchen Makers

The heart of the home, the kitchen, no longer a room hidden from view at the back of the house. It is now the hub where most of us spend most of out time, cooking, eating, working, socialising. It works hard, so having a space that is well loved made with care and attention to detail is well worth investing in in my opinion.  These values are at the fore front of everything that Inglis Hall stand for and this certainly resonates when you see their beautiful handcrafted ktichens.
Alas I don’t own an Inglis Hall kitchen which I definitely covet, but I do have a kitchen that we invested in over 15 years ago when Ruby was a baby.  As a family we spend a great deal of time in our kitchen, one of my favourite things is having a quiet coffee first thing in the morning, sitting at the scrubbed pine table especially on a weekend before the world awakes.  We work around the table as one of us cooks, there is always lots of laughter, long lazy lunches are had alongside big discussions, it truly is the heart of our family home.  We chose a local company who made eveything by hand in their workshop, all our cabinetry is made from wood, so even now after years of wear and tear it looks quite good and if we chose we could sand down the units and repaint them at a nominal cost other than a bit of elbow grease on our part.  The same principle applies to all that Inglis and Hall do, their ethos and contemporary styles will stand the test of time as the craftsmanship and finest materials will testify.
Their attention to detail means things go at a slower pace, no flatpacked pile them high and install at lightening speed here, things are made to last not be ripped out when bored in a few years.  Investment is key, passion and longevitiy not fashion fads and cheap materials adding to our ever growing landfill problems.
Inglis Hall was founded by Toby Inglis in 2013, he had a belief that there were discerning consumers who appreicate, and want handmade kitchens that distill aesthetic, peerless craftsmanship using the finest of materials.  The passion to create better and more beautiful kitchens still stands today.  It is very simple: Inglis Hall make kitchens, from a building in Lewes Sussex which comprises of a studio, offices, workshop and obviously a very well used kitchen.  The whole process starts and ends there, sourcing materials locally and as effectively, reasonably and responsibly as possible.  From conversaton to idea, to design to craft, to object and to instalation it all happens contained in this building.
They take being makers very seriously, its about an honest, authentic commitment to making, the whole process from idea to installing the finished object.  What I love is at Inglis Hall they are a team, everyone has a direct part to play in the making of their beautifully crafted contemporary kitchen.  Their moto of the team that works together eats together so every Friday they all sit down to have meal as a a collective, tools down, eat, talk, appreciate and eat a bit more.  A perfect way to end a working week and they also strive to never work on a weekend.  Slow living appreciated in so many ways.
Inglis Hall understand that a kitchen is a serious investment and that buy less, buy better is a commitment too.  They see it such that materials are to a kitchen what ingredients are to a meal, which in my eyes makes perfect sense’ Making the commitment to craftsmanship that you choose only once rather than a false economy of mass production is worth it as I can testify with my own kitchen.
Their passion and professionalism shines through in all their projects.  A kitchen being a lifetime purchase, creating the heart of the home where every day life continues around it.  That is why Inglis Hall can proudly describe themselves as makers and I wholeheartedly agree.
