I’ve had huge fun playing around styling this week using these beautifully coloured patterned cement tiles by Maitland & Poate. Their tactile nature and perfect pastel palettes let me create some lovely flat lays to show them off in all their splendour. Alas I don’t have a big enough project at home at the moment to be able to use them in situ which is a shame as I have become quite attached to a few of the designs.
Whether you are planning a project and can’t decide on tiles for the bathroom or just want to add a eye catching splash back to your sink area in the kitchen then I would wholeheartedly recommend Maitland & Poate for all your tile needs. I love using individual tiles as coasters or small pieces of art work leant against a plain wall. I am hopefully going to use these samples to create a wonderful table to top to use in the garden in the Summer months. You can be very creative with tiles in so many ways so always look outside the box.
Maitland & Poate are a family run London based business that grew from a passion for beautifully made tiles. It all started when sourcing reclaimed encaustic tiles for their own home when wanting to add a touch of Andalusian flavour to the interiors. Obviously the obsession grew into a very successful business offering a wide variety of uniquely patterned tiles that proudly speak of a previous life and handcrafted heritage. Many of the designs were discovered in ancient farmhouses throughout Spain, Belgium and France. Choose any tile from any of the collections and you will definitely be creating a statement floor in your home.
The authentic original cement tiles I have used are a new collection, hand poured by third generation tile makers in Andalucia. Each individual tile is made by using the same original techniques of hand pouring into brass stencils using the finest quality materials and natural pigments that are so recognisable to those of Spanish tiles hand crafted over the centuries. The inspiration for many has come from some of the most popular antique tiles they have discovered over the years. These ancient patterns, colour palettes and designs have now been painstakingly recreated into modern day encaustic tiles, that will withstand our busy daily lives.
These cement tiles are a fabulous alternative to the antique tiles where limited batches can sometimes no longer be available when a project is ready for tiling, this new collection offers the security that the availability will always there. The new cement collection are suitable for both hot and cold zones, wet or dry, interior or exterior, the possibilities are endless. Alongside this the spectrum of stunning colours to choose are plentiful, whether you want a vibrant bold shade. a delicate pastel palette or a hint of a rich ancient hue. Also each style can have a finish of your choice from an aged patina for an always been there feel or simply left as new in its raw finish depending on the look you are after.
All of the collections available at Maitland & Poate are unique and rather special, being able to create your own variations and configurations to breathe life to an interior is a magical thing. The choice is only as limited as your own imagination!
