Creating a Natural Home with Selina Lake
I love interior books, I have many piled around my home so I can indulge and be inspired when ever I want but I also like it when the book isn’t just about dream interiors but informative too, idea building and cohesive. A book that gives you practical advice that you can incorporate into your own home, Selina Lake’s new book Natural Living Style does just that.
Not only is this book beautiful to look through, filled with dreamy interiors and stunning images it also focuses on the subject of sustainability. How we can make our homes more sustainable, organic and eco friendly as we can alongside being aesthetically pleasing and stylish? It is asking all these questions and giving the answers to creating a practical but beautiful home that will have a minimal impact on the environment.
Selina’s pretty but contemporary style still shines through the pages of this book but it has also evolved in line with the concerns regarding waste and a desire to live in a way that is better for the planet, something that many of us are consciously aware of in our current climate. The book is broken into chapters dealing with the need for us to make simple changes to create the desired outcome. Starting with Inspirations, a chapter which takes a closer look at the key ingredients to making your home a natural one. Exploring the recyclable materials we can use such as glass and metal, cork and rattan, natural and organic textiles such as linen and cotton. Recyling and repurposing as much as we can to bring the Natural style to life.
In the chapter Natural Living Spaces we see how sustainability and style can go hand in hand in each of our living spaces we use every day from the kitchen, living room, bathroom and utility. Giving tips and hints throughout that will inform our decisions and help us make simple changes to lighten our footprint on the planet. The homes featured have all thought greatly about their benefits to the environment and have researched and implemented eco friendly methods in every aspect of their interiors, each very different but so very beautiful.
Being aware of the impact that we are having on our planet is a start but this book gives you many practical ideas to make the changes for a green life but in a gentle, sustainable and stylish way. Natural Living Style will be a great source of reference for me, alongside being a beautiful book that will take pride of place on my coffee table to fill me with inspiration for many moons to come.
