A Home for all Seasons // Kay Prestney & Becca Cherry

I truly believe in seasonal living, it has been part of our home for quite a few years now.  Taking the time to really notice the season that you are in and embrace it.  Not only by being present and in the moment and not racing ahead but also nurturing the months as they change within your own home.  This beautiful new book A home for all Seasons by Kay Prestney and Becca Cherry published by Ryland Peters & Small helps guide you through this way of seasonal living.

I think living in the UK we definitely experience all four seasons, each one unique to the other so it’s rather wonderful to be able to celebrate each in their own right within our homes.   Within the pages of the book we discover the benefits to seasonal living, showing us the ways to live harmoniously with nature as we mark the passing of the year.  Each chapter focuses on one of the four seasons starting with Spring, bringing in blossom and bulbs and pastel shades to celebrate new beginnings.  Summer are the months where we embrace outdoor living, lots of lightweight linens and sunbleached materials creating light interiors.  As Autumn arrives and the nights draw in we focus more on earthy tones, bringing the outside in using foraged foliage and seed heads.  Warmer textiles in ochres and russet hues.  Then Winter is upon us and we focus on creating warm inviting spaces, candles, ever green foliage and cosy furnishings.  Then it starts all over again which is why this book is so good, you will refer to its pages as each year passes.

Within each seasonal chapter Kay and Becca give you guidance on colour palettes, textures and materials.  Alongside featuring beautiful homes that represent the season each home encompass, from a French Chateau to a stunning barn in Sussex, a Georgian house in the Cotswolds to an old medieval hall house in the Norfolk countryside.

So if you want to embrace seasonal colour palettes, biophilic elements and natural materials within your decorating schemes then this is most certainly the book for you.  Using the ever changing seasons to inspire a considered and comforting home.
