The Boot Room Dream

Over the last few weeks we have decided to look into moving home, pipe dream maybe but its a small seed planted and hopefully with a little care we can make it grow.  One thing that I would absolutely love is that separate hard working space just off the kitchen, whatever you want to call it or what ever you want to use it for.  Be it a boot room, utility, scullery, pantry, laundry it could possibly be all of them.   Regardless of function it would be fabulous to have that room to keep your shoes from the garden, the washing machine and baskets for laundry, a big butler sink for all the mucky jobs that keeps the kitchen sink clean, a work surface for flower arranging and shelves for all your vases.  Cupboards for sundries, hooks for brushes and cleaning utensils.  You name it it would go in there obviously in a well ordered manner.

It would be my little haven keeping the kitchen free from such things and goodness would it make me happy.  I love order, I like cleaning but its quite hard storing and keeping all the paraphernalia stored away in one room.  I would have open shelves with neat jars, hooks for feather dusters and dustpans to hang from, baskets for linens, neat stacked tea towels and a place for laundry so that it doesn’t spread all over the house, the list is endless.

Here are some of the spaces I find inspiring and the companies that create such beautiful spaces such as deVOL and Neptune to name but a few.  Are you a boot room daydreamer too or are you one of the lucky ones who is living the dream?

Well I would love to have a boot room. I do have a small room off in my garage. Now you have me thinking I could make it a mud room. Right now its storage for gardening tools and cleaning tools. Both of which are organized. I also store plastic containers with holiday decorations. I could move those out and put my garden bench in there. oh boy now you have me started lol, off to Pinterest

This made me very happy, sometimes an inspiration gets you thinking and off you go! Sounds like you have a lovely little project to start x

I’m in total agreement. We’ve redesigned/ renovated 3 homes and I’ve always prioritised a boot room. The bigger the better. But even if you’ve only got a hallway or landing it’s so worth thinking hard about storage in the threshold area.

Totally agree with you Charlotte, we have been clever with hanging washing baskets and airers for laundry making them a feature. Alas don’t have the space to create a boot room but one day x

What do you think?
