Warming Dishes with Indian Spice Company

There’s nothing better when the days get colder and the nights draw in than cooking up something delicious in the kitchen, be it a quick Friday night dinner or a big Sunday gathering.  What’s best about doing this to my mind is the love, care, time and the best ingredients that make the magic happen.

In the Summer, sitting in a field in Wiltshire with my extended family chatting about our dreams and ambitions, Rupert and Alice showed us their prototype designs for their new business they were about to launch, we talked and encouraged and knew that whatever they were passionate about would be a success.  Fast forward a few months and here we are: Indian Spice Company products are now available for all.  The concept is simple to take your Indian cookery to the next level using the best spices possible.

At Indian Spice Company the spices are sourced from India and around the globe, each growing region brings with it different flavours, all their spices are single origin and many are organic from golden Indian turmeric to the Guatemala green cardamom.  In time they hope that every spice will be organic but being single origin, unlike most spices you can get in the UK, makes the flavour even more wonderful, bold and vibrant.  All the tins are colour coded and stackable which makes your spice cupboard far easier to negotiate plus you can refill you tins easily, the refill bags are also compostable and sustainably sourced so no waste.

The website is very easy to negotiate and what I love most is the recipe boxes.  If you are new to Indian cooking or simply want to try something new and don’t know where to start these boxes give you a guiding hand to creating amazing Indian food in your own home.  Recipes that have been tried and tested in Rupert and Alice’s kitchen that can be recreated in your own.  Its a fabulous way to build your home spice collection and trying something new.

Recipe Box One Nailing the Basics is brilliant, you get 6 key spices, a recipe book of around 20 delicious easy to follow recipes ranging from show off meals to easy mid week ones that will be come part of your weekly staples.  Within the 6 tins is enough spice to last 3 months or so if you cook one or two recipes a week.  There is a mixture of vegetarian and meat based options and all other ingredients are easy to find at the supermarket.  All are simple and easy to follow, plus the satisfaction of creating something from scratch that tastes amazing is so worth it.

I chose to make Butter Chicken, starting with the basic chicken tikka marinating the chicken overnight and turning into Butter Chicken for a lazy Sunday lunch the next day.  Simple easy steps made it a joy to cook and oh my goodness it was delicious and will become a firm favourite in our house.   I’m really looking forward to trying the South Indian Fish Curry and the Tarka Dal next.

If like me you like to cook but also don’t like having lots of complicated ingredients all over the place then Indian Spice Company is the place to go.  They come highly recommended, also a recipe box or a Leach Pottery Pestle and Mortar or Cuisinart Spice Grinder would make to perfect Christmas gift for the avid cook in your life.

* With thanks to Indian Spice Company for sending the Recipe Box One
