Hand Painted Kitchens
Last month we went through the process of seeing if we wanted to move house. It was a good exercise to do, rather than just talking about it we took the step of getting the house valued and spoke to a mortgage consultant. It made us reevaluate our thinking, yes we can or should I say could move now but we decided to wait a few more years to see Ruby through university and re gain that capital before we jump.
This decision then made me think of a few things we could do to improve our little house for the years we are staying put. One being replacing the nasty PVC French doors, I shall write a post about this another day. The other is taking the plunge and re painting our kitchen cabinets and replacing all the handles. Maybe a crazy thing to do ourselves but we shall give it a go, what could go wrong!
I’ve bought sample pots of paint that I think will work well with the space, I painted blocks of wood and moved them around to see them in different light. I still want a pale colour even though I do love darker shades I’m not sure they would work as well in my space. I am however picking out a stand alone cupboard in a contrasting colour to add a bit of fun.
In all the research and reading I have done over the last couple of weeks in seems Little Greene Intelligent Eggshell is the right way to go. I am going to use Portland Stone Light for the majority of the units but my little wall cupboard is going to be Bassoon a beautiful rich muted yellow reminiscent of ‘back of house’ areas in grand stately homes which I have fallen a little bit in love with.
To totally transform the kitchen we are replacing all the hardware, you will be under no illusion that I have a little bit of an obsession with deVOL so to add a little more of them in my own home I am going to use their handcrafted matt black bronze fittings. The majority being their small classic knobs but a couple of the larger cutlery drawers I am going to use classic petit handles as a contrast.
I am so excited, I love being practical and getting my hands dirty, I also like the sense of pride knowing I’ve done it all by myself and saved a few pounds along the way. It may be Summer before its all completed but that’s how we like to roll, slow and steady but these are things that sparked the inspiration.
You can find more that has inspired me on my Pinterest feed.
