Autumn in the Lakes
Book ending the seasons with a couple of lazy days in the Lake District. Its magical in Autumn, from foxgloves and spring greens in May to deep hues of russets and ochre in October. We are so very lucky to own a caravan and I do think I take it for granted a bit. Sometimes I get a touch of the green eyed monster when looking at instagram seeing those who get free stays at fabulous places but then I have to remind myself of what I have and to embrace and enjoy the simple things without having to shout about it.
We visited favourite places, walked in the hills, got soaked (wouldn’t have it any other way) sat in cosy pubs by the fire, read books and totally stepped back and enjoyed the quiet.
I’ve found it a bit difficult since Ruby went back to university this year, finding my purpose and what I want to do, a problem that I’m still working on, so going away was a tonic. Taking myself out of my usual surroundings, being able to breathe clean air and ignoring my phone. For now whilst back at home I’m going to reflect and take time to enjoy this beautiful fleeting season.
I hope hand on heart that you love what I do and will stick around and carry on enjoying the calm without the hard sell. Maybe its time for me to realise it’s enough.

I follow so few people on Instagram now because it’s just exhausting in all the ways you mention and it doesn’t make us feel good either… my life is simple, my wonderful family, garden, allotment, creating a home with found treasures and enjoying visiting places like these. I look forward to your posts and blogs which inspire me in a lovely way . x

The Lakes is a favourite place for us as a family, it feels like going home. As for work and instagram it has become quite difficult of late but I’m slowly coming to terms with the changes and will carry on doing me regardless. Thank you for your kind words. Jane x

It’s beautiful in the Lake District. We too have a caravan now, it’s one that is static and our little bolt hole. Love your photos. I have heard of Chester’s by the River but never visited yet. Must remedy that. 🙂

Chesters is lovely, the homeware store is lovely. The cafe used to be amazing, now as brilliant as it once was but the food they produce is delicous x

You chronicle the ordinary moments, at home or away, with your extraordinary insights on appreciating the moment! Those moments could be about a cleaning ritual, a self care moment with lovely products, a love of home and the continual job (and joy) of changing it up with a big refresh or a tiny oil painting in the bathroom. Many of us take inspiration from you! I know I do!

I totally agree with everything you say. I find Instagram so full of the hard sell or pushing a life that is so unaffordable and awash with stuff. I love what you do and your beautiful home.Your photographs of the lakes remind me of how beautiful it is – I must go back soon. It has been decades but now I’m not teaching I can go outside the school holidays.

The Lakes is a magical place, it feels like going home for us as a family, definitely worth going again!
I find lost a bit with instagram or maybe left behind as I don’t want to start doing reels, its really not my thing! I shall keep going though for a little while longer and hopefully the slow and calm way will become popular again xx
