The Timeless Trench Coat
I know I’m a bit late to the trench coat party but I can finally say I get it. I’m not one to follow trends and refresh my Autumn/Winter coat every season but this year I felt like I needed a refresh and have been quite taken by the long oversized trench coat that I haven’t been able to avoid seeing like everywhere. I know its probably at the height of its star buy moment but that’s not why I invested. This coat will see me through many many years, long after the hype has gone. I did my research with a little help from favourite brands and pinterest of course, I wanted a middle ground price but nothing so cheap that it wouldn’t stand the test of time.
I decided on this one from Marks and Spencer, I also deliberately went up two dress sizes to get the look I was after. I liked the colour a slightly more dark sand tone rather than the creamier versions, this one is single breasted too with a nice collar and dropped shoulders so suits me better. I wanted to be able to wear chunkier things underneath and still feel roomy. One of my bug bears about winter coats is feeling restricted which is why I usually avoid them plus they are normally on the very pricey side.
There are many different version of the humble trench coat available at the moment, ones in more Autumnal colours and a more loose fit than what you would expect. You can find some of the ones I love on my pinterest feed plus links below to some of my favourite high street picks ranging in price.
Have you also fallen in love with the humble trench coat too, I’d love to know.

This has evoked so many memories for me. The Trench coat was the first coat I bought myself with my humble Saturday job money in 1988 at the age of 16! Oh how I loved that coat and thought I was so grown up wearing it. Naturally I continued to grow and eventually out grew the coat when the sleeves were becoming more elbow length, my younger sister was very keen to take it off my hands.
You look amazing in yours and have now got me thinking about Trench Coats again.

Tracy I love this story! The trench certainly is a versatile timeless coat. I think you need to listened to your inner 16 year old self and invest in a new one xx
