Fallen Under the Welsh Spell

Maybe I shouldn’t be writing this post at all because I kind of want to keep this magical place all to myself.  I am going to write something but maybe not give all my secrets away.  I will share just a few, shhh don’t tell.  My family and I have spent two blissed out weeks in West Wales, I had no expectations as I’ve never been to this part of Wales before but it exceeded everything and a little bit more.  I was wanting to have a similar experience to the one we had in France last year so a beach within throwing distance was high on the list and it didn’t disappoint, being able to see the sea from Agatha our caravan was simply perfect.

I’m rather rubbish normally at slowing down, I have lists upon lists of where I want to visit when we stay somewhere new but I learnt last summer to let this go and chill, just to be in one spot with no other place to be, it was quite a revelation to me.  Thankfully West Wales has the same vibe as Brittany and I adored it, single lane tracks, no traffic, views that take your breath away, artisan shops, amazing local produce and food, did I mention the views.

We drove down to our beach everyday, sometimes twice to swim and sunbathe, the perfect mornings were spent swimming in the turquoise water, then wrapping ourselves up in towels to dry off in the sunshine with coffee and croissants before the day even began.  Having salt tingly skin and sunkissed faces filled my heart to bursting.

Only 10 minutes away from Cardigan (Aberteifi) we frequented the quayside and the pizzatipi rather a lot as it was just too good not to.  Amazing pizza but great for a quick lunch of delicious breads, dips and the best olives I’ve ever tasted in a relaxed atmosphere that I wanted to bottle and bring back home with me.   Its rather wonderful on an evening too as the sun goes down, glass of wine, scrummy pizza and a beautiful view, simply perfect.

We did venture out a couple of times, there is a rather special hidden gem of a National Trust property called Llanerchaeron which I utterly loved, so peaceful and quiet with the most stunning garden that I wandered around in my element but it wasn’t long before the pull of the beach took me back to Mwnt.   We were lucky enough to visit Sian at Fforest too, such a treat to spend the afternoon with the best people in the most magical surroundings, it was joyous.

So there you have it Wales has stolen my heart, the slower pace of life, the rustic beach shack vibe that I adore, being outside most of the day and of course not forgetting swimming close to dolphins and seals in the wild was an experience I will cherish for ever.
