Spring Break

We’ve had a wonderful Easter weekend but I’m lucky that the holidays are not quite over for me until next week.  So I thought I’d have a little on-line break for a few days this week, I am escaping for the first time this year in our little caravan for some R&R, fresh air, sleep and no wifi!

Because I can’t bring myself to not post anything at all, I shall leave you with this small offering today and I’ll be back next week with a fabulous post featuring Radley London.

PS.  I had the honour of featuring on the Linenbeauty blog this week, taking part in their A Simple Path series, talking about doing more with less, a perfect read for a slow weekend.

Winter Hues

It’s mid January, not a month I particularly cherish once the Christmas holiday glow subsides I find it hard to get motivated but I’m also not one to start mentioning Spring right now either.  I want to find peace with the darkest days of Winter before looking toward the light and warmth that Spring brings.

I try and find ways to embrace the grey skies and bleak corners, making moments of magic and enjoyment when I can.  Warming food that nurtures and drinks that warm your belly.  Setting the table for evening meals with lovely cutlery and special ceramics to beat the Winter blues.  Layer the sofa and your bed with throws, blankets, sheepskins to keep you warm and cosy.  Fill your wardrobe with tactile knits and scarves, chunky socks and boots to keep you as snug as your home.

Match your interior palette with that of nature, subtle hues of greys, deep blues and off whites making for a perfect winter home.   Immerse yourself in good books, interior books being my weakness, make plans for the coming months through the dark evenings.   Most importantly use this time to sleep, I find it the most therapeutic thing to do, I go to bed early in the Winter a slight hibernation of sorts as if I’m recharging, catching up, letting myself just be.

White Luxury

I was recently set a challenge by Sainsbury’s to live with some of their everyday luxury products and review my findings.  To me it was perfect timing what with Christmas approaching fast, to renew and refresh my guest bedroom essentials for welcoming guests over the festive season and to be organised for the odd impromptu visits that sometimes occur.

Creating a home away from home environment when we have guests to stay is a priority and a pleasure.  Fresh cotton sheets that match, plump duvet and pillows and a set of fluffy towels.  There is nothing worse than an unloved space to stay in, a little bit of time and effort makes all the difference.

To create that perfect nights sleep Sainsbury’s duvet and pillows are luxurious with pure cotton covers filled with goose feather and down fillers, both soft and light, making your night’s sleep warm and cosy.

I love nothing more than pure white bedding, it makes a guest room inviting, especially if you layer well with cushions and throws, giving the room that indulgent feel.  The Everyday Luxury collection most certainly falls into this category, made from the finest quality Egyptian cotton with a high thread count which becomes softer and more luxurious after every wash.   It is most certainly soft and comfortable and with the addition of a textured white throw placed at the end of the bed for when you get a little chilly makes for the most heavenly setting.

Classic white fluffy towels are a must for your guest, make sure you have a range from large bath towel down to a hand towel.   These towels from the home collection are made from fine Eygptian cotton hygro.  Hygro is a marvellous technology that ensures the towels are thicker and softer than normal without being bulky or heavy.  I can honestly say they are the fluffiest, softest towels I have ever owned, there is nothing nicer than snuggling up in a soft towel after a relaxing soak in the tub.

The finishing touches to any guest room is to make the space look inviting and homely.  Placing fresh flowers and reading material on the bedside.  A beautiful scented candle if your guest want to retire early to read a while in the glow of candle light.  Arrange some hangers so clothes can be stored neatly.  Leave a fresh jug of water and tumblers and a dedicated space for toiletries.

All these details make for a pleasant stay and I can whole heartedly say that the Sainsbury’s Everyday Luxury range will do the job excellently.  Good quality, high end products at better than high street prices is quite remarkable.

The Perfect Night In

As Winter approaches I like nothing better than staying in, no plans made, nowhere to go and I couldn’t be happier.   Don’t get me wrong I do love getting glammed up every now and again, high heels on, glass of fizz in hand, creeping back in in the small hours. Then sometimes after a busy week you long to recharge, shut the laptop, turn off the phone and just savour those precious moments at home.

I don’t need to give you hints or tips as to how to do it, I think we all  have our favourite ways of unwinding and making the most of our down but these are a few of the things that I find irresistible to me.  When I get the chance to do more than one of these rituals together then I have succeeded in creating the perfect night in.

As the day draws in I like nothing better than to light many candles.  The warm glow creates the perfect atmosphere to start relaxing.  Light the fire, put the kettle on and curl up in your favourite chair with those books you’ve been meaning to read for a while and haven’t quite got around to yet.  I also like indulging  and losing myself in a good film, wrapped up in blankets on the sofa, movie night is another way to escape, to drift off into another world for a while you simply can’t beat it.

Whilst you are in no rush there is nothing nicer than to draw a warm scent filled bath, to soak away those knots, breathe deeper and slower while immersed in the warm water.   Fill the room with candle light, maybe enjoy a good glass of wine and stay there until your fingers get all wrinkly.

Something that my husband and I like to do is cook, through the week evening meals can be quick and rushed as we all do our daily tasks, homework to be completed, clubs to go to, meetings to attend.  On one of those rare evenings that it is just the two of us, there is nothing more satisfying than to make a meal together, taking our time preparing, laying a table, talking about the day, creating new plans without any time constraints.

Then my all time favourite of all favourites for a perfect night in is to get into bed ridiculously early.  Comfy and cosy, fresh bedlinen, books and magazines at the ready, blankets to snuggle up in and a warming cup of tea.  Truly it doesn’t get any better than the cocooning sanctuary that is the duvet.  To be able to fall asleep when relaxed and rested, enjoying a good nights sleep and to wake refreshed and renewed, there is nothing that can top that, not in my book.

Yawn

This past week I was kindly invited by the ever so generous Yawn to take over their instagram feed.  It’s been a fun week balancing my own and their accounts and everything else in between.

I thought I’d share with you some of the images I took for their feed.

Everything about the Yawn ethos is focused on relaxation, their nightwear is especially cut to fit perfectly, no tight uncomfortable bits just soft luxury fabrics.  All the quirky fun designs are hand drawn in their London studio. I particularly like the hidden messages on the inside cuffs of the nightshirt and pj’s, these little touches are exactly what makes Yawn stand out from the rest.

I am also quite partial to a bed sock or two, not necessarily to sleep in but in the colder months I do enjoy  a leisurely soak in the tub, wrapping myself up in pyjamas and cosy sleep socks to then curl up on the sofa with a good book.  I can honestly say the Yawn socks are the softest I have ever owned and quite frankly I didn’t want to take them off!

Along with their perfect packaging I would highly recommend that you all own some of their sleepwear.  Even the Financial Times says so!

and Sleep ….

As soon as November comes around the call of Christmas and the hulabaloo of the season, dark mornings and dark evenings all of this makes me want to curl up under my duvet and stay there for a while.   I do enjoy this time of the year but sometimes being cosy and warm is all that I crave.

Our bedroom is a little cocoon, deep red walls, wooden floors, plumped up cushions and squishy eiderdowns, you can understand the reasons for not wanting to leave it every morning!

But I do covet other rooms to rest your head in, I have a pinterest board filled to the brim with the most wonderful rooms, how marvellous it would be to be able to click your fingers and have a different scheme for different seasons without the cost!

Here are a few of my favourites, displayed in themes ….
