Made + Good // Conscious Homewares

Carrying on slightly from my post last week about nesting for the season of Autumn, I touched on sustainable home wares and mentioned a few of my favourite places to go when you want to replace or update a part of your home without resorting mass produced goods from the high street.    Well this week I would like to introduce you to Made + Good an on line store that is not only ethical, conscious of the environment but all their independent makers are based in the UK, everything is hand crafted, small batch products made with love and hard work.  Another unique point about Made + Good is…

    Simple Aesthetics with Murmur

I love it when I come across a brand that has all the right aesthetics that resonate with me and my style.  Let me introduce you to Murmur a lifestyle and interiors brand that I know you won’t be able to resist when you see their beautifully designed products. Murmur is more than just a home ware brand they want to capture a renewed desire for hand crafted simply designed pieces, bringing with it a fresh approach and attitude to how we live today.  Their ethos is simple based on one that is influenced by Scandinavian and Japanese design; elegant natural materials are paired together with geometric patterns inspired by…

    Inspired by the Sea

Influenced by the sea to create beautiful textiles that resonate with the ever changing big skies and sandy shore lines must be a joy but for Camilla Thomas that is exactly what she does. Tidal Sands is Camilla’s first collection, the designs of each piece have been woven inspired by the light, movement and structure of the unique coast of the beautiful island of Anglesey in North Wales.  The aim was to capture the essence of what it feels like to be part of the very fibres of each piece. Camilla has always enjoyed being creative from being small, free hand knitting, stitching and making projects, it was only when…

    Freight

If you’ve ever visited the East Sussex town of Lewes you’ll know that it hosts many stylish independent stores, ones that you won’t find on every high street.  I love the diversity that Lewes has, it is a beautiful place to visit. One of these stores is Freight,  a favourite of mine not only because the products that they sell are exceptional and work perfectly with my pared back style, but the atmosphere created is one of calm, like spending time in a friends home.  Also I never leave empty handed, the well curated house-hold goods are exquisite and I really can’t resist having them in my own home.  They…

Merry & Bright at The Welsh House

During my stay at The Welsh House a couple of weeks ago the light and weather conspired against me for a day but on the morning we left the sun shone through the rain clouds and created such an ethereal light, so bright and still. Dorian thought I could work with some beautiful paper he had ordered from Esme Winter.   I thought hard about how to use these wonderful creations but didn’t want to damage them in anyway as they could be used later after I had left, so I decided to display them so you can see them in all their sumptuous glory. As it is now only…

    Buckets of the Fabric Variety

When Hillarys got in touch asking if I would like to take part in their competition I knew exactly what I was going to make.  I’ve been wanting to have a go at fabric buckets for quite some time after reading about it over on Katy’s blog Apartment Apothecary.  So now I have the perfect opportunity to get my craft on once again. I’m not going to give you a tutorial here as Katy’s instructions are perfectly written and simple to follow and most addictive to make.  Along with the fabric from Hillarys you will need iron on interfacing to give the bucket structure and another contrasting fabric.  I used…

    The Bench

I love the simplicity and versatility of a well crafted bench.  They are a most useful but understated piece of furniture. Placed in the hall for daily use as storage and sitting whilst putting your shoes on before you run out of the door or simply to display a vase full flowers and nothing else.    At the end of one’s bed if there is the space, stacked with cushions and blankets when the weather turns chill or piles of magazines and books for those lazy weekends .   A bench used instead of chairs around a kitchen table or outside in the garden either displaying pots or left empty for…
