Dare I say it but I feel the whisperings of Autumn racing towards us. The plums in the garden a ripening at a rate of knots turning a beautiful blush red hue, the tomatoes a brighter shade and the hedgerows are starting to bulge with the deepest darkest claret coloured blackberries and elderberries.

I have a tendency to lean towards red as a predominant colour in my home too. Last week I wrote about the merits of white, this week red in all it’s forms comes to the fore. Our master bedroom is a cocoon of deep red, it is such a beautiful room to sleep in. It really comes into it’s own as the days get cooler and the nights draw in, all layered with warm linens and eiderdowns, vintage Turkish rugs and lots of cushions (much to my husband’s dismay!).
From small accents of the red spectrum to an all over scheme I find it a totally compelling colour to use and it works in every aspect of design from modern to country chic.
I am never without a good bottle of red nail varnish, Chanel of course; painted nails always complete an outfit to perfection. My favourite tipple being a deliciously fruity glass of red wine whilst curled up on my burgundy damask sofa!

So if you are a bit stuck with what colour to add to your interior that will give it that zing why not give red a go I highly recommend it.
